1. I have a child that turns 4 shortly after the cutoff date of September 1, may I still enroll him or her?
Your child needs to turn 4 by September 1 to enroll.
2. Will the 4K program be 5 full days per week?
Enrollment and transportation will determine the offering of morning and afternoon sections. The 4K program will follow the regular Waterford Graded School District calendar so students will attend Monday thru Friday or as directed by the calendar, but it will be half days.
3. Where will 4K be held?
The 4K program is available for children who live within the Waterford Graded School District boundaries. At registration, parents will be providing 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice options for their child to be placed. All elementary schools will have 4K classrooms.
4. Will I be able to find wrap-around care for my child?
You may contact the child care sites to see what they offer for wrap-around care. If you choose a wrap-around child care site in your child’s elementary boundary transportation will be provided to and from 4K. Although Today's Child is not in Evergreen boundaries, transportation will be provided to/from Today's Child to/from Evergreen Elementary.
5. Will transportation be provided for my child?
Transportation will be provided if a student lives more than a mile from school. The bus stop will be within .3 miles from the child’s home.
6. When opting for busing, would there be a separate 4K bus? Or would my child ride with the other elementary children going to schools?
The elementary morning and afternoon routes would be with all K-6 students riding the bus. The mid-day transportation would be a separate 4K only bus.
7. Is it possible for my child to be bused to day care if he or she attends wrap-around care?
The child care center or home would need to be within the boundaries of the child's home school with the exception of students going to/from Today's Child to/from Evergreen Elementary.
8. Now that 4K is offered in our district, is it a requirement that our child attend it?
The 4K program is not required according to state statute; it is an optional public school program with state funding.
9. What costs are associated with the program? Are there registration fees?
A school fee/registration fee of $15.00 will be charged per child.
10. Will my 4K student have to purchase supplies?
Yes, a supply list for 4K will be available when all district supply lists become available in summer.
11. What is the projected number of students per school or for the district for this 4-K program?
This may be different for every site. The district is projecting between 75-100 students to be enrolled.
12. May I open enroll my child to 4K?
Yes, open enrollment is available. However, the number of open enrollment seats will not be determined until January. If you are interested in Open Enrollment, you may fill out a form online through the DPI website. The deadline is April 30th.
13. Does my child need to attend 4K daily, or is it as-needed?
Yes, your child will need to attend the 4K program every day. Attendance is taken on a daily basis.
14. What will happen to the 4 year old Title One Preschool now that we have 4K?
The Title One funding can be used for additional support for 4 year old students beyond the 4K time and/or a 3 year old preschool program. The District is considering the options.
15. How many students will be in each 4K class?
Typically there will be about 18 students per class. However, each room is state licensed according to the size of the room.
16. What is the difference between the potential sites?
Although the locations of the potential sites are different, all sites will have the same curricular expectations. The program Splash into PreK will be utilized in the Waterford 4K program.
17. Will the 4K calendar follow the WGSD elementary calendar?
Yes, with the exception that 4K will have NO SCHOOL on early release days.
